Still haven’t dug into that starfruit?! Well, don’t miss out! It’s simple to eat. You might ask, like I did, “Can I eat the skin?” The simple answer is yes, but I recommend cutting off the ridges of the star tips and the top and bottom tip. Then simply slice and remove the seeds before consuming.
I shared one of mine with a group of our friends and about 60% loved it and the other 40% were fine with it, but they decided they wouldn’t be begging for it every night. It it crisp, almost like an apple or pear, but extremely juicy like a grape and less sweet than most fruits. Definitely a juicy burst of goodness.
Here are a few recipe ideas for the fruit:
- Star Fruit Chips
- Sweet Star Fruit Carambola Relish
- Broiled Star Fruit Carambola Topping
- Thai Fruit Salad

On a side note, starfruit may have some drug interactions, just like grapefruit does, so if you do take medications, you may want to check with your pharmacist or doctor.
Rich in Vitamin C and other antioxidants, this juicy tropical fruit is a fun addition to your next fruit salad. So, let that starfruit sitting in your refrigerator be the next the star at your dinner table! Enjoy!
